How do I become a medical cannabis patient?

South Dakota voters passed laws that allow a patient to use medical cannabis for a “debilitating medical condition,” defined as: “a chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition or its treatment that produces one or more of the following: cachexia or wasting syndrome; severe, debilitating pain; severe nausea; seizures; or severe and persistent muscle spasms, including those characteristics of multiple sclerosis”.

Can a medical cannabis patient have a designated caregiver?

Yes, so long as the designated caregiver:

  • Is at least twenty-one years of age;
  • Has agreed to assist with a qualifying patient’s medical use of cannabis;
  • Has not been convicted of a disqualifying felony offense; and
  • Assists no more than five qualifying patients with the medical use of cannabis, unless the designated caregiver’s qualifying patients each reside in or are admitted to a health care facility or residential care facility where the designated caregiver is employed.
What are concentrates?

Concentrates are made by removing the excess plant materials and impurities from a cannabis plant. This leaves only the plant compounds of cannabinoids and terpenes. Concentrates are a higher proportion of cannabis than the flower. Example: Flower may be 21% THC while a vapor cartridge or concentrate may be 75% THC.

What type of products do you carry?

Cannabis Health offers a variety of indica, sativa, and hybrid flowers available in raw and pre-rolled form. We carry concentrates, distillate vapes, salves, edibles, vapor cartridges (disposable and cartridge only) and will carry other manufactured products as they become available.

What type of testing do you do?

All of our suppliers use a State Certified Testing Lab for THC content and safety for each product we provide.

Are your products safe?

Our products are tested by a State Certified Testing Lab Certified by the South Dakota Department of Health.

Can I return or exchange a defective product?

Yes.

Do you sell CBD products?

No.

How do I apply for a cannabis card?
  • Schedule an appointment with a practitioner
  • If you qualify, a certification can be issued through the online portal
  • Receive an email to create an account through the online portal
  • When the South Dakota Department of Health approves the card it will be mailed to you
  • Come visit our store and talk to a Medical Technician in person!

The requirements for applying for a medical cannabis card include:

Tips: You must have the following:

  • Valid form of Identification (driver’s license, passport, US Government ID card, tribal ID card, student ID card)
  • Passport quality photo
  • $75 fee (Please reference low income guidelines to see if you may qualify)
  • Applications for a medical cannabis card cannot be processed until the South Dakota Medical Cannabis Program receives the certification for medical cannabis use by the patient’s practitioner.
What if I am visiting from outside of SD and have a cannabis card from another state?

You must have a South Dakota Registry Identification Card (RIC) to purchase cannabis in South Dakota.

Can you accept out-of-state permit recommendations?

No.

What is your low-income program?

An application for our Compassionate Care Program (CCP) is available in-person upon request.

Do you store patient/caregiver information. If so what do you do with this information?

Yes, we store patient/caregiver information. If consent is provided, we will send promotional information.

If I am a non-resident in South Dakota, can I apply for a cannabis card?

Yes, there is a non-resident application on the South Dakota Department of Health website for more information.

Cannabis Questions

What does THC/CBD mean?

CBD is a non-psychoactive ingredient of the cannabis plant that does not get you “high”.

THC is a psychoactive ingredient of the cannabis plant that gets you “high”.

How do you determine the quality of cannabis?

High-quality cannabis products will have an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Often called “loud weed,” it should have a desirable fragrance. Meanwhile, low-quality cannabis will have a dull appearance, low potency, and a dusty aroma.

 

What is the difference between CBD and THC?

Both CBD and THC are found in the cannabis plant. THC is psychoactive and CBD is not.

What is an edible dose?

Edibles are an alternative to smoking or vaping. Edibles are created with exact doses, making it easier to control your dose by monitoring how much you ingest. What are concentrates?

What is a dab?

A dab is a way of consuming concentrates. It consists of heating a glass, ceramic, or titanium “nail.” You apply the concentrate to the hot surface, turning the substance into a vapor for consumption.

What are terpenes?

Terpenes effect the aroma and flavor of a strain of cannabis. They work with cannabinoids and other cannabis plant compounds to produce a high.

*A first-time purchase must be done in person. Subsequent transactions can be done online and require in-store pickup. A valid Registry Identification Card (RIC) and valid form of ID is required for all purchases.
