About Cannabis
South Dakota voters passed laws that allow a patient to use medical cannabis for a “debilitating medical condition,” defined as:
“a chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition or its treatment that produces one or more of the following: cachexia or wasting syndrome; severe, debilitating pain; severe nausea; seizures; or severe and persistent muscle spasms, including those characteristics of multiple sclerosis”
The requirements for applying for a medical cannabis card include:
▪ Photocopy of an unexpired form of identification (e.g., driver’s license, passport, US government-issued ID card, tribal ID card, student ID card)
▪ Passport-quality photo
▪ $75 fee. Low-income individuals (those with gross monthly household income <130% of the federal poverty level) can request a reduced fee by providing documentation of household income.
Applications for a medical cannabis card cannot be processed until the South Dakota Medical Cannabis Program receives the certification for medical cannabis use by the patient’s practitioner.
CBD is a non-psychoactive ingredient of the cannabis plant that does NOT get you “high”.
THC is a psychoactive ingredient of the cannabis plant that gets you “high”.
High-quality cannabis products will have an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Often called “loud weed” it should have a desirable fragrance. Meanwhile, low-quality cannabis will have a dull appearance, low potency, and a dusty aroma.
Both CBD and THC are found in the cannabis plant. THC is psychoactive and CBD is NOT.
Edibles are an alternative to smoking or vaping. Edibles are created with exact doses, making it easier to control your dose by monitoring how much you ingest. Individual responses to cannabis can vary so it’s important to start low and go slow. For a full education section, visit Weedmaps.com to learn more.
Concentrates are made by removing the excess plant materials and impurities from a cannabis plant. This leaves only the plant compounds of cannabinoids and terpenes. Concentrates are a higher proportion of cannabis than the flower. Example: Flower may be 21% THC while a vapor cartridge or concentrate may be 75% THC.
A dab is a way of consuming concentrates. It consists of heating a glass, ceramic, or titanium “nail.” You apply the concentrate to the hot surface, turning the substance into a vapor for consumption.
Terpenes effect the aroma and flavor of a strain of cannabis. They work with cannabinoids and other cannabis plant compounds to produce a high.
